This comprehensive renovation of 140 student apartments, housing 354 beds, was completed in the ten short weeks of summer break. The project updated interiors, kitchens and baths that had not been renovated in almost 40 years while installing a sprinkler system.

New finishes and colors create a more residential ambiance and a new identity visible from the exterior. A new walkway an the hillside site connects seven new accessible apartments to the common spaces.

New Upper Floor Addition Revitalizes Dublin School's Theatre/Dance Building
Dublin Stage

Over the course of one summer, a small arts building was transformed into a 125 seat multi-use dance and performance space.

By removing and rebuilding the upper level, the new Fountain Arts Building supports both proscenium stage performances on the existing raised stage floor, and experimental productions utilizing the entire upper floor. The new roofline nearly doubles the height of the former hall, and is equipped with lighting and sound grids over both the house and stage areas.

Beneath the control booth balcony, demountable seating platforms and cross-over space allow multiple "black box" configurations. A dark color scheme and curtain drops along the mirrored rear wall and along the exterior wall allow the room to be switched from practice to performance mode with minimal effort.

chinatown rendering

Imai Keller Moore Architects provided design services to assist planning consultant Taintor Associates in the Boston Chinatown Master Plan 2010 as part of Randall Imai's position on the Plan's Technical Advisory Committee. The Plan identifies four Anchor Areas as development centers in the dense urban neighborhood seeking options for future growth.

Randall's contributions to the project included renderings of the plan for better community understanding of the proposed concepts. IKM designers Chris Johnson and Junko Yamamoto aided in the design and layout of the final report. Junko volunteered personal time for the final production of the report as her community service project as part of her Intern Development Program (IDP).
