Brimmer and May School needed to expand its Middle / Upper School Classroom Building to consolidate facilities and to provide a much-needed new library and new classrooms. Because of the school's highly constricted campus, the new addition was designed and built entirely below grade, allowing the re-constructed Athletic Field to extend over the new building. A new open-air Courtyard brings daylight into the new Library, the four new classrooms, and the new music classroom. Support spaces include faculty offices and music practice rooms.
The project scope included renovating the existing science classrooms on the lower level of the Chase Building. During the summer of 2005, two new biology laboratories and a chemistry laboratory were completely renovated, each served by renovated staff offices and prep rooms.
This project received a Citation for Site Innovation from the 2007 BSA Design Awards for K-12 Facilities Design.
