Prospect Hall on the Mount Holyoke campus consisted of a five-story residence hall and a one-story kitchen/dining linked by a common one-story entrance lobby. IKM worked with Mount Holyoke College maker space Steering Committee and with the owner’s representative, CSL Consulting, to design a complete renovation of the 8000 sf former Prospect Hall kitchen/dining facility to create a new maker space.
Construction began in May 2017, and the maker space opened in time for the 2018 spring semester. Each space is equipped with audio-video equipment and furniture that can be reconfigured to suit a variety of activities. The project includes new energy-efficient MEPFP systems and, in keeping with a campus-wide goal of achieving net-zero energy usage, new triple-glazed windows were installed throughout along with a new over-insulated roof designed to receive future PV panels.
